When painting a dog watercolour is a wonderful medium to use. Just like when I’m painting other pet portraits , being able to capture a personality is part of my process, and because watercolour offers spontaneity and an element of the unknown, you will always have a unique result.
This listing is for an A5 painting on handmade paper, examples of which are shown.
The paper I use is just lovely, and I think it’s adds something to the painting. The surface is uneven, and because it is 100% cotton the paper absorbs the water beautifully and lets the paint flow. The depth that develops after a couple of layers brings life to the painting. You’ll see that the edges of the paper are deckled, and many people choose to front mount the painting to show this off. I am happy to chat to you about this.
I also paint on a very smooth, bright white paper if you’d like a more detailed finish, and also in other sizes. Sometimes I remind myself how to use watercolour pencils too, as they were the first art medium I loved as a child. It’s good to keep my hand in there.
Whatever your requirement, I can probably help so the best thing to do is drop me a line if you’re unsure.
I’d love to hear a little about your dog to enable me to imagine their character while I paint. Yes, it may sound mad but it helps me paint!
I will need a reference photo that you like, and preferably one that is clear. I can also work from old photographs if that’s all you have, so don’t let that put you off.
