If you love France, paintings are a wonderful way to remember a trip, or perhaps dream of future ones.
This website was created with a long term view of travelling the length and breadth of this amazing, diverse country with brushes in hand. I’ve already written a couple of books about France, and now that I can travel again it seems like a good time to pick up the baton.
On this page, I’ll share a few of my paintings and I’ll also direct you to my shop where you can buy originals. I also take commissions, so do let me know if you have a special memory you’d like captured.
Oh and before I forget, read on to learn more about my newsletter and early bird discounts for my French paintings, classes, and commissions.
Now, let’s continue.
Paintings of France – Why and Where?
In 2013 I travelled around France in my classic Peugeot 504 and wrote a book about the trip, and that’s when the love affair began.
I have thousands of photos from my travels around the country, and being able to share these experiences – whether through art or words – is my passion.
In recent years, Brittany has been a favourite. The coast around Morlaix Bay in north Finistère never fails to take my breath away.
Here, the clarity of light is extraordinary.
It lends itself to my impressionistic art style, where light is the star of the show. At times, the colour of the sea and the skies look appear impossible. The darkest black plays against a dash of the brightest yellow on the landscape. Just fabulous.
ACEO – Collectable Miniature Paintings of France
You may or may not be familiar with the term ACEO, but it refers to Art Card Editions and Originals. I love painting these, and they are a great way to start collecting original art in an affordable way. They also help fill the coffers for little old me.
These original paintings are 2.5 x 3.5 inches, and you can buy frames for them or collect them in an album. I keep a register too, so you’ll be in my archives!
I have a page dedicated to my ACEO paintings so if you’re looking for a unique letterbox gift pop over to take a look. These start at just £5.
Breton Seascapes and Corners of Collioure
Throughout July I will be adding more paintings of France to this page and to my shop. I also plan to write articles about the places I feature. Expect Collioure paintings and an eBook that you can download for free.
I am also planning to host some painting holidays in France in 2023, so I will give you the link to sign up to be notified.
French Lavender Paintings
How could I write about paintings of France without including Provence and Lavender?
Yes, I do paint these, and in different styles too. Some are expressive, and some might be more illustrative… it depends upon my mood.
I’ll also be writing a post about the Musee de Lavande, in Gordes, Luberon (Provence). It’s featured in my book and it’s a stunning part of the world. My lavender paintings are inspired by time spent there.
French Village Paintings
Where do I start?
The very fact that there is a website dedicated to the many beautiful villages of France, as well as prizes akin to Michelin stars, says it all.
Les Plus Beaux Villages de France will have you chomping at the bit to get on the ferry. It is, of course, also an artist’s dream.
I will create a category page specifically for French village paintings if that’s what you’re after.
Would You Like to Join Me as I Explore France?
As 2022 races past like a high spring tide, it’s time for me to paint. Whilst I would love to be writing my next book – aptly named Colours of Brittany – for now I am reminiscing here and with my brushes.
I’d love it if you’d share the ride on my creative adventures in France. Whether you’re enjoying France from your armchair, or swishing paint with me, I hope to inspire you.
Today, the order of the day is seascape paintings. If you’d like to watch me paint you can do so on my You Tube channel or my Patreon page.
For ease of reference, I will add links here to the categories mentioned on this page. If you have any requests, please do ask.
Please bear in mind that this is a work in progress, so I’ll be adding more links regularly.
The best way to keep up to date with my work is to sign up for my newsletter. There, I will be sharing new paintings before they go live on this website. I plan to offer my art first to my community at a discounted price… a thank you, if you like.
The newsletter is also where I’ll be updating information about painting classes and holidays. Again, there will be early bird discounts for subscribers who love France as much as I do.
I Hope to See You Soon
It’s time for me to go. I am expecting a delivery of my preferred seascape paper. It’s 100% cotton, handmade and allows the paint to meander across the page. It creates some beautiful fluid shapes. I’m a teeny bit bit excited! Can you tell?
All that’s left to do is to say à bientôt!
And I’ll leave you with some examples of my France paintings
