Miniature Minimalist Seascape Painting ~ Carantec One

It’s not quite January, but I’m ready for 2025!

This little seascape painting is an example of how I capture painting ideas for my larger pieces.

Painted with Daler Rowney watercolours and on their Aquafine smooth paper, you can see how I’ve allowed the paint to find its own way, helped by a few preliminary squiggles of masking fluid. It’s essentially three colours, mixed to recreate the atmosphere in northern Brittany, France (yes, the sea really is that blue and I have photos to prove it).

Letting go of perfection has allowed me to create art in the emotion of a moment, and these ACEO sized pieces are a perfect way to do that – especially if I’m travelling.

Seascapes are my favourite thing to paint. I can sit for hours watching the tide ebb and flow, and sometimes create piles of watercolour sketches in one sitting.

You see, it’s about the atmosphere. The colours, the emotion, and the feeling I get that’s a desire to be at one with nature.

Now, with those grand words in mind, here is a tiny painting. It’s a seascape in watercolour and is sized 3.5 x 2.5 inches (ACEO sized).

I’ve realised how much I’ve missed painting while I’ve been busy earning a crust as an accountant. The balance has been a little off, but the intention is to find more time to paint in 2025.
