A miniature landscape painting, created to capture a moment. I often use these sketches to inspire my larger paintings, and whilst I love to take photos, I also keep my travel watercolour set with me to record colours and atmosphere en plein air.

3.5 x 2.5 inches, painted on smooth paper, and the first of a series of Provence paintings I’m working on this year.

This miniature landscape painting is a sketch of a light filled corner of Provence. My goal is to capture atmosphere in my art, and this little artwork reflects the heat of summer and the barren Alpilles in southern France.

A watercolour landscape on smooth paper, painted with Daler Rowney Aquafine paints, and a selection of brushes! If you’d like to learn more about my materials and techniques, I share my landscape painting ideas regularly.
